Coachella‘s status as the country’s biggest music festival is inarguable. Anyone who has attempted to buy tickets to the event online knows that actually getting through the perennially crashing servers is akin to winning Willy Wonka’s coveted Golden Ticket, even after their addition of a second weekend. With festival producers Goldenvoice having raked in close to $100 million in revenue from ticket sales, the opportunities for expansion are seemingly endless.
Goldenvoice has already capitalized on this area of growth with the creation of their biannual CRSSD festival, but now, further developments to expand seem to be underway. Consequence of Sound reports:
“Back in 2013, Coachella producers Goldenvoice signed an agreement with Indio, California to keep the festival in the city through 2030. The agreement also allows Goldenvoice to stage up to five events over the course of the year. As Goldenvoice already puts on two weekends of Coachella and the country-themed Stagecoach Music Festival, that leaves room for two potential fall events.”
As initially reported by The Desert Sun, Indio mayor Glen Miller has been in talks with Goldenvoice to create a new festival to materialize in the fall. Miller states that “significant progress has been made” and claims his belief that the establishment of a new festival is “imminent.”
Miller went on to say that another festival would bring an additional 1.4 million in revenue to Indio and lend further credence to the Californian city’s reputation for being the “City of Festivals.”
