Electronic-dancehall aficionado, Ape Drums, made his first break onto the scene when he was featured on the Major Lazer remix pack for “Jet Blue Jet,” and subsequently joined Diplo on his celebratory single “Duttiest Wine” after reaching one million followers. Almost two years later, the Houston-based producer has lent his remix talents to the likes of Skrillex and MUST DIE! in addition to jumping in the studio with A-Trak and AarabMuzik. With festival season upon us, Ape Drums returns to Diplo’s Mad Decent imprint to release a Major Lazer-assisted single, “The Way We Do This,” with reggae vocalist Busy Signal.
To start, Major Lazer and Ape Drums lay down a swinging arrangement of galloping drums and distorted synths for Busy Signal to take the reigns with his island-heavy croons. After the Jamaican vocalist prepares us for the drop, the production team find the sweet spot where dancehall rhythms meet energizing electronic sounds.
