Following a brief hiatus for mental health reasons, Benga has returned in fine form with a new EP entitled Future Funk. The fractured album artwork captures the vibe of the tracks as they pivot seamlessly through genres.
With the title track, Benga evokes the droning darkness of post-punk and new wave efforts of the ’80s. “Power” taps into the iconic 909 house sound while “Make Moves” seems to detour through an acid warehouse party. All in all, Future Funk is a triumphant return for the iconic producer.
“I’m back and I think my sound is the most ‘me’ it’s been since Diary of an Afro Warrior,” said Benga of the release. “I’m super excited to play it and reconnect with all of the people who have supported me.”
Future Funk EP is out now via Benga’s own Benga Beats.
