BREAKING: Check Out Ed Sheeran’s Cameo In The New Game of Thrones Premiere

Earlier tonight, TV’s hottest series Game of Thrones returned with the premiere of its seventh season. And while most of the cast is fairly familiar to us all, one eye-catching new celebrity made a cameo appearance and, in case you haven’t been on the internet in the last few hours, you’ll know that it’s pop superstar Ed Sheeran.

Ed plays the role of a Lannister soldier but his contribution goes far beyond just that of a regular pawn when you dive deeper into the brief conversation he has with Arya Stark. In their encounter, Ed’s character is complimented by Arya after he leads some fellow soldiers on a brief ditty called “Hands of Gold.”

Per Vanity Fair, the song is supposedly taken directly from the book and is written by a character called Symon Silver Tongue and refers to Tyrion Lannister’s lover Shae – a fact with which Symon used to blackmail Tyrion. That being said, based on what’s happened so far in the series we know that that happened fairly far in the past, which probably rules out Ed playing Symon. Maybe the song refers to another Lannister then? Jamie perhaps?

Either way, who knows? We could just be looking too deep into this, but knowing the show’s creators we probably aren’t…

Check out the scene below and the lyrics to “Hands of Gold.”

He rode through the streets of the city,
down from his hill on high, O’er the wynds and the steps and the cobbles,
he rode to a woman’s sigh.
For she was his secret treasure,
she was his shame and his bliss.
And a chain and a keep are nothing,
compared to a woman’s kiss

For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman’s hands are warm. . .
