To say it’s been a while since Cassius last released music would be an understatement. A decade has passed since the French duo’s last album came out, and though occasional singles have seen the light of day, Philippe Zdar and Boom Bass have favored spending their time focusing on reclusive production work.
Now the two have glided back into the world of modern disco, with “Action,” a production brimming with saxophones, Mike D’s unmistakable funky sound, and Cat Power’s slinky vocals. Zdar is known to have worked with both Mike D and Cat Power in the past, so it’s not a surprise that their combined sound is both easy and complex — evocative of those who have a deep understanding of each other’s music. In an interview with Pitchfork, Mike D detailed that the song is “in a sense capturing that era of a Compass Point record that gets played in the Loft in New York City, but today.”
Details around Cassius’ new album still have yet to be released.
