Jody Wisternoff has retained a strong presence in electronic music since the start of his career in the 1980s, crafting melodic house pieces and gaining recognition for being part of Way Out West with Nick Warren. He’s been a regular on the Anjunadeep imprint since 2009, having just been chosen by his peer Lane 8 to take on his album single “Sunlight” from his debut studio album, Rise.
While Lane 8 focused on building a hypnotic, fluid atmosphere with the original version, Wisternoff has changed things up with his re-work, sprinkling in hi-hats and downplaying its melodic aspects with sparser synth progressions. The haunting vocals fit flawlessly into the new canvas created by the Anjunadeep veteran, maintaining the slight sense of yearning presented in the original.
“It was a pure pleasure lending my touch to this absolute stand-out moment from Mr Goldstein’s Debut LP,” Wisternoff said on his decision to remix the track. “Liquid analog synths and cascading arpeggios were the order of the day, whilst staying true to the gentle vibe of the original. Super happy to have this one out there.”
