Icon Collective has solidified its reputation as the premier educational facility for electronic music production on the West Coast. The North Hollywood arts school has become a breeding ground for the next generation of talent, as evidenced by its formidable track record, which includes the likes of Jauz, MAKJ, Slander, SNBRN and more.
To spotlight some of the amazing talent coming out of the school, we’ve teamed up with Icon for a new series highlighting tracks from the past month from both current students and Icon graduates.
There were no shortage of quality tracks to choose from when crafting this month’s feature. Perhaps even more telling than the volume of releases, however, was the sheer diversity of genres represented by the Icon community last month. In light of this expansive body of work, we’ve narrowed down five of our favorite releases from July.
The first arrives from PLS&TY, who teamed up with Icon instructor Bobby Saint for a catchy crossover anthem on independent tastemaker imprint PRMD (the home to Avicii, Cazzette and more). Then there’s “Super Best Friends Club,” a boisterous three-way collaboration between Castor Troy, Boy Bishop, and Cooda, with an individual section devoted to each artist’s style.
Adding to these is a fresh garage-inspired number from Late Niite, as well as a catchy house collaboration between live act JK Smile and Icon instructor P-LASK. Lastly, there’s “Been a Long Time” from Wraith, the first release from The Database, a new drum ‘n’ bass collective spearheaded by various Icon artists.
