Right now I’m smiling. Everybody is off at Coachella and I’m here in my room having the time of my life listening to this single by Kronic and Nikki Jean.
As the name implies, “Dark Shapes” is, well dark. Grimey and heavy production accompany Nikkie Jean’s haunting vocals to drive a stake right through the heart of the listener. It’s not often that I focus on the lyrical content of a track, but somehow the visceral, twisted lyrics are all too real for me. The lyrics most definitely give this trap song an added dimension of “edginess” (as ironic as that sounds), and I’m not usually one for aggressive bass tracks, but somehow this one just hits the spot for me.
