Nigerian DJ breaks world record for longest DJ set

DJ Obi has broken the world record for longest DJ set. The Nigerian DJ performed for 229 hours, or 10 consecutive days, from Sao Café located in Lekki Phase One in Lagos. The previous record was set by Polish DJ Norbert Selmaj in 2014 at Dublin’s Underground Temple Bar.

Obi’s performance ran from June 22 to July 1. He was allowed 2 hours breaks each day to rest, and was monitored by a medical team and routinely fed vitamins. All of this, however, was still not enough to prevent some pretty serious sleep-deprived complications:

“I woke up hallucinating after 4 or 5 days and had lost full control of my body…I used the loss my father as an inspiration, constantly thinking to myself that my Dad was watching me and would be disappointed if I failed.”

DJ Obi performed on Serato. No song was allowed to be played twice in the same 4-hour span. His final song was Drake’s “One Dance.”
