Belgian producer Netsky built his career on melodic, lush compositions over drum & bass beats. His first two albums, Netsky and II, took that formula and used it to propel the producer into the international spotlight. With his third album, keeping with naming tradition and titled III, Netsky keeps pushing the envelope, collaborating with numerous artists, turning drum & bass hallmarks on their heads, and even expanding into new genres.
Fans will likely be drawn to the tracks with big name collaborations — namely, Jauz, Chromeo, and Digital Farm Animals. “Higher” with Jauz and “TNT” with Chromeo represent fairly large departures for Netsky; the former is a intriguing melding of the Belgian’s melodic sensibilities with Jauz’s bass house thump, while the latter sees Chromeo’s Dave 1 singing over a Prince-inspired, ’80s infused dance track. Consider those just as appetizers, though, as the whole album is filled with thoughtful entries and inspired production with enough diversity and, of course, drum & bass, to appeal to fans new and old.
Netsky’s album III is available to stream in full on Apple Music.
