Electro-funk duo The Floozies dropped their latest EP, Granola Jones, a week after kicking off a two-month national tour. The four-track EP displays the Hill brothers’ signature combination of quality production and funky instrumentals which have earned bookings this summer at Electric Forest, Mysteryland, and Bonnaroo.
“Superbad,” the EP’s only previously-unreleased track, combines doo-wop vocals and a deceptively catchy synth riff with an unexpected breakdown in the latter half of the track. On glitch-hop-inspired “Wild Card,” guitar licks and rollicking horns set the funky tone before breaking into unexpected bass wubs about thirty seconds in.
“No Part of This” features the saxophone stylings of Karl Denson of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and formerly of Lenny Kravitz’s band and official member of the Rolling Stones’ brass section. The title track “Granola Jones” rounds out the EP with funky syncopation and groovy piano harmonies.
The Floozies’ Matt Hill said of the EP:
“I stretched out and experimented a lot on this album, from sound design ideas that I’ve never tried before to singing four part harmony and writing hooks. I’m incredibly excited about the results and so ready to share all this new music on the road this year. We’ve been really fortunate to get to carry out our musical ideas, so we’re going to keep pushing ourselves to get better and make the best music we can for everyone that’s allowed us to live this dream.”
Granola Jones is out now via All Good Records.
