Two Arrested In Australia After Police Find Over A Tonne Of MDMA

Two Polish men were arrested in Australia this week after police found 1.2 tons of MDMA hidden in lead casings wrapped inside aluminum rolls, according to Sky News. The amount could have been used to create 4.1 million ecstasy tablets, and was the fourth largest drug haul in the country’s history. The MDMA was valued at over $100 million.

The lead and aluminum was said by the New South Wales regional director for the Australian Border Force to be in place in order to prevent X-ray detection. Police said that they believed the shipment to have come in from the Czech Republic.

Justine Saunders, acting deputy commissioner of operations for the Australian Federal Police, said that the drug bust could indicate “international implications.”

“This has come from Czechoslovakia (sic) and has found its way to Australia, so this is bigger than the two individuals that we have arrested. So, yes the investigation will continue and, yes, we do anticipate further arrests.”
