Weekend Rewind: Listen to Pendulum’s debut Essential Mix from 2005

Back in 2005, Pendulum changed the face of drum ‘n’ bass with their groundbreaking album, Hold Your Colour. The 14-track release brought to life some of the genre’s most anthemic singles to date like “Tarantula” and “Blood Sugar.” In the same year, Pete Tong and BBC Radio 1 took notice of the group, enlisting them for their debut Essential Mix in September.

When Tong introduces the Australian trio, the enthusiasm in his voice tells all: “Tonight the Essential Mix comes from this year’s Essential drum ‘n’ bass outfit… Their debut album Hold Your Colour is an immense piece of work and one of the standout albums of 2005.”

The two-hour mix is tour de force of bass music, featuring classic cuts from the likes of Noisia, Chase & Status, Shy FX and more. Stitched together in frenetic fashion, it’s a keen reminder as to just how long Pendulum have been shaking up the electronic world.

Pendulum are gearing up to make a reunion in 2016 with a forthcoming appearance at Ultra Music Festival in March. Check out the full UMF lineup here.
