Dutch trap-house duo Yellow Claw just rocked two almost sold-out nights in Los Angeles last week at the legendary Hollywood Palladium. It’s been an interesting ride for Yellow Claw since the release of their fantastic debut album, Blood for Mercy, last November. Despite huge appearances all over the world, including this year’s edition of EDC Las Vegas, longtime member MC Bizzey left the group just after EDC.
Thankfully for fans, the now-duo did not miss a beat at their Friday night performance. MOKSI was warming up the crowd when I arrived at the venue. The Dutch duo’s upbeat bass-house was the perfect opener for Yellow Claw. The crowd was gyrating hard when they dropped their new collaboration with DJ Snake, “Pigalle.” The main act was up next and the crowd was treated to a barrage of spinning lights and CO2 on stage. Yellow Claw’s fans were out in full force on Friday night, I saw tons of custom made Yellow Claw t-shirts, some reading Yellow Claw California Crew. Over the course of an hour, the crowd was treated to an energetic set of trap, electro, and even some hardstyle. Standout cuts included their two smash collabs from Blood for Mercy, “Catch Me” with Flux Pavilion and “In My Room,” with DJ Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign and Tyga. Classic Yellow Claw tracks such as “Till it Hurts,” “Slowdown” and “DJ Turn it Up” also had the crowd swaying, and of course chanting “Yellow motherf***ing Claw.”
Next up for Yellow Claw will be a worldwide tour in support of their new Barong Family Album. A collection of tracks from many of the artists who supported their Palladium show including Cesqeaux, LNY TNZ and Mike Cervello. The album, available for free download on Soundcloud, features tracks from those artists, Yellow Claw themselves, as well as others such as Wiwek and San Holo. The tour will start in Asia on September 7 before returning for more US dates including New York, Detroit, and Dallas. The tour will wrap up in October with some European dates.
