Gnarls Barkley will officially be back in 2018 with the release of their third studio album, almost exactly a decade after the release of their sophomore effort, The Odd Couple. The group, comprised of CeeLo Green and veteran producer Danger Mouse, struck stardom with their 2006 radio sensation “Crazy,” which eventually came along with their debut album together, St. Elsewhere. Since the group’s first two records, the joint venture has largely gone silent, though a third Gnarls Barkley album was always in consideration according to CeeLo. Now the pair have officially let the cat out of the bag on plans to release new material come 2018.
Recently CeeLo spilled the first details in an interview with DJ Booth, noting that the new Gnarls Barkley project will include fresh joint material with Danger Mouse, as well as individually written material from both artists as well. CeeLo confirms the project is already underway, explaining,
“âWeâre halfway in and we have some overtures from the other projects that may not have stood the test of time, we donât know yet.â
The plan is reportedly for the two artists to unite for a week in early 2018 and throw the album together in that time, riding a similarly organic process to their debut album’s composition. It will be interesting to see how Gnarls Barkley fares over a decade after their initial shot to superstardom.
