Celebrate the life of Christina Grimmie with her beautiful covers of Major Lazer, Rihanna and more

Sometimes the world is a cruel, unforgiving place. Today, June 11, feels like one of those days as we mourn the loss of one of our generation’s more promising talents: Christina Grimmie. The 22-year-old singer was shot dead last night after giving a performance in Orlando, Florida. The gunman killed himself shortly after, with Grimmie’s brother first tackling the assailant and preventing any further bloodshed.

Grimmie rose to prominence in 2014 after finishing third on the sixth season of NBC’s The Voice. Even before her appearance on national TV, however, she’d already amassed a dedicated grassroots following thanks to her heart-wrenching YouTube covers. In 2015, Grimmie began dabbling in the EDM sphere, teaming up with Diamond Eyes for melodic dubstep cut “Stay With Me.”

Outside of pure musical talent, Grimmie was known for her affability, humility, charitable endeavors, and for all-around being a beautiful soul. To celebrate the life of this luminous talent, we’ve shared a selection of our favorite covers, ranging from her take on DJ Snake and Major Lazer’s “Lean On,” to Alesso’s “Heroes” and Rihanna’s “Stay.”

Rest in peace, Christina. You will be missed more than you could ever know.
