Deadmau5 drops techno, trap, and Motörhead at Ultra Day 3

Ultra attendees were treated to two deadmau5 performances this past weekend. After filling in for The Prodigy on the Live Stage on Saturday night, Joel Zimmerman completed Armin van Buuren’s challenge of performing from the A State of Trance Stage on Sunday. Contrary to the stage’s ethos, however, deadmau5′s set largely consisted of techno (with a few surprises along the way). Rinsing out selections from Stephan Bodzin, Boris, and a particularly engrossing mashup of Maceo Plex’s “Solar Detroit” with Morgan Page’s “Longest Road,” deadmau5′s set was perhaps more befitting of the Carl Cox and Friends Arena which hosted the stage the first two days of the festivals.

Of course, the set was not without its fair share of trolling. Deadmau5 promised a few “ASOT firsts,” and delivered by opening his performance with some Slayer and later closing with Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades.” He also played out his “Strobe” trap reimagining, “Eborts,” which went over surprising well given the stage’s trance demographic. Lastly, he had some nice words for Armin, thanking him for the opportunity: “Thank you guys for having me. Thank you, Armin. We cool. Thank you ASOT.” Listen to set in its entirety below.
