Israeli duo Lola Marsh turned a complex personal situation into an adroit, well-received debut album, 2017’s Remember Roses. The duo of Gil Landau and Yael Shoshana Cohen originally met at a house party, began to collaborate, and formed a romantic pairing — the dissolution of which they turned into inspiration for their first LP.
The group tapped Dutch duo Deepend to put a club-friendly spin on their track, “Wishing Girl.” Deepend leave Lola Marsh’s vocals and acoustic instruments — and the track’s infectious whistled melody — mostly untouched as they pick their spots to add accompanying synths and subtle production flourishes. The end result is a breezy affair that belies the complex emotions that went into crafting it.
