FWLR is back on Monstercat with an electro tour de force called “How We Win.” The track is just the second big label signing from the New Brunswick-based artist, but don’t think of FWLR (given name Nick Fowler) as a budding producer – he’s been composing and engineering for film and TV for more than six years. Those technical chops are put to work in his solo electronic project crafting crisp, clean aggression.
“How We Win” pulls off the rare feat of delivering the spirit of a genre, while simultaneously surprising with creative twists. The intro’s classic rock-infused riff keeps it clear from the beginning the track is out to break necks. Sure enough, the frantic first build gives way to a drop supercharged with slapping snares and distortion. The breakdown is anything but anticipated, featuring a full on ’80s metal guitar solo that still blends seamlessly with the song’s hard rock backbone.
