Kesha’s case against Sony and Dr. Luke has been dismissed

Kesha’s tumultuous battle to bring a lawsuit against Sony and Dr. Luke has concluded with the lawsuit officially being dismissed. The pop singer was fighting to move up her court date, where it would be legally determined if she would be released from her recording contract with Sony after alleging sexual and emotional abuse by producer Dr. Luke.

A New York state judge initially denied Kesha a preliminary injunction in February. The case now has been completely thrown out, with the judge siding completely with the label. The case’s dismissal comes just days after Kesha announced that Sony would release her from her contract if she rescinded her statement that Dr. Luke committed a “hate crime” against her by raping her.

The judge noted that Kesha acted unreasonably by not taking the deal. The court also noted that “although [Luke’s] alleged actions were directed to Kesha, who is female, [her claims] do no allege that [Luke] harbored animus toward women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha.”

Kesha’s similar case in Los Angeles remains open.
