Mark Johns is back on the scene with her latest OWSLA release “Same Girl” — a ridiculously hot track that serves up chilled out trap candy and showcases her sick flow, originality, and bad bitch mentality.
Known in part for being Sonny Moore AKA Skrillex‘s protégée, the 23-year-old singer/songwriter is making a name for herself by being herself. In an interview with W Magazine she revealed she’s finally embracing her mentor’s advice with “Same Girl,” her first original since her debut Molino EP.
“‘You can be whatever the f— you want,’” Skrillex told her, as she dealt with the pressures of living in LA.
“I realized if I have my label and I have my friends and I have my people who are willing to support whatever the f— it is that I want to put out, then why am I stressing?” she said.
It’s a good thing she listened, because while “Same Girl” isn’t what is expected to make waves in the electronic scene, unexpected is in. Produced by lophiile, MAG and Skrillex, written by Mark Johns and Blaise Railey, it’s no wonder this track has some serious fire under it.
Mark Johns speaks (or sings, rather) genre-defying volumes by offering a creative, refreshing blend of individuality, not to mention her stellar vocals… And, with lines like “I need a hotspot, cause all my data is totaled” and “still moving with that Razr flip” it’s impossible to not want to sing along.
