Michael Phelps listens to Skrillex and Steve Aoki to prep for races

Michael Phelps recently bolstered his tremendous collection of Olympic achievements, earning five gold medals and one silver at the 2016 games in Rio for a total of 28 medals across his outstanding career. In the wake of this historic accomplishment, the question remains: what music does Phelps listen to prepare for his races? The answer would be Skrillex, Nero and Steve Aoki, of course.

“The music that I’ve been listening to this time around…I’ve got some old school hits,” Michael says. “I’ve been going out to some old school Eminem when I get to the pool, and then I change it up to…what is it, is it Nero? Is that “Promises”? Yeah, Nero and Skrillex, EDM. Got some old school Aoki in the mix from 2008.”

Citing artists like Eminem and Wayne as a couple of his other favorites, Michael Phelps relies on a wide range of musicians to provide motivation and inspiration when hitting the pool. NBC also reports witnessing the swimmer listening to Afrojack and Steve Aoki’s 2011 record, “No Beef,” ahead of Saturday’s 4×100-meter medley relay.
