Modus has been steadily making a name for himself in the LA underground with a consistent gig schedule and recurring placements at festivals like CRSSD and Nocturnal Wonderland. The producer, real name Josh Garcia, recently ended his studio hiatus with a new two track EP on LA techno imprint Imune.
Titled Operandi, Modus’ latest work showcases a compelling duality to his sound with equal parts melody and grit. The A-side, for instance, “Pinnacle,” serves up paralleling arpeggios to a backdrop of steady drum work. Meanwhile, the B-side, “Be Yourself,” showcases Garcia’s penchant for pounding European techno — the kind of work you’d expect to find on an imprint like CLR or Nicole Moudaber’s Mood.
