Your EDM Interview With Aaron Carter, On His New EP, “LØVË”

Do you remember the 14-year-old teenager who released the song “That’s How I Beat Shaq” back in 2001? His name is Aaron Carter, younger brother of Nick Carter of the intensely popular boy band Backstreet Boys.

Though he’s always had a hand in music, he’s been largely quiet since his last studio album, Another Earthquake, in 2002. He released an EP on Soundcloud in 2015, entitled The Music Never Stopped, clearly a nod to his time away from music. However, he’s slated to make a grand re-emergence in 2017 with the release of his new EP, LØVË, and an album later this year.

The EP will be 5 tracks, one of which will be “Fool’s Gold,” which you can listen to below. Your EDM was fortunate enough to be able to speak to Aaron briefly about this new adventure in his musical career, and a bit about the EP.

Hey Aaron, thanks for taking the time to speak with Your EDM. How does it feel now that your EP is finally done and ready for people to hear?

Thanks for having me! I’m very excited and happy about it. It’s taken me a year to get to this point, and I’m excited to release music I co-produced, wrote and creatively directed across the board. This EP was the first time I was able to do put my own touch on the music I was making, so I’m looking forward to people seeing a new side of me.

We know that you’re heavily influenced by artists such as Tycho, Flying Lotus and Petit Biscuit. But your first interaction in the EDM world was with Deadmau5. Tell us a little about that.

I actually can’t share too much information about that. I did have a chance around that time to meet up with Joel (Deadmau5) privately and talk to him which was cool.

How did you come up with the name of the EP, LØVË?

For a while I was thinking about what I was going to call my EP. Around the time when we were recording, there were a lot of things happening in my life that lead me back to the idea of love. It kind of just hit me all of a sudden- that naming the EP “LØVË” would be a powerful and universal title everyone could relate to. It explained a lot of what I was going through in my personal life and also creatively. I felt it was the best way to convey what I was going through and translate it into the music I was making.

What has been your process for learning to produce electronic music at this level?

What has helped me a lot is working with other people that are better than me. That’s how you get better as a producer really. I’ve always kept an open mind and open heart to new sounds, which has been really helpful in my creative process. When producing, I love to use Logic Pro and my go to when producing is Serum. Both are amazing.

What kind of set up will you have when touring?

It will be a mix of EDM and live music. I have some great live musicians and also have some EDM set ups.

How does it feel to be releasing your first full-length album in 14 years?

It feels great. Definitely has been a long time coming for sure.

What would you say to people who haven’t listened to your music and then see that you’re releasing an electronic EP. What would you say to assuage any confusion they might have?

I’m just making music how I feel. If you like it and vibe with it then cool. If not, then change it. I’m really just going to let my music speak for itself. This album is a mix of pop and electronic, both which are apart of who I am as an artist and producer now.

Any final words?

The EP titled “LØVË” will be available for pre-order Friday, January 20th, and it will be released February 10th. My newest single off of the EP titled “Sooner Or Later” will be available with pre-order (out now).
